These images are created by a Romanian graphic designer Cristian Boian. The series called "Attempts" interwoven with curves, ellipses and fractal figures delivers an intricate feeling. I love the flow of the work with in the smooth pastel tone colors and the curvy shapes that work well together.

Mary Katrantzou

From her debut collection

Above and the four following photos are from S/S 2011 collection

Above and the four following photos are from F/W 2011 collection

Mary Katrantzou, who graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2008, has already been famous for her unique inspirations for her collection. From her debut collection of color-block jersey dresses with large African tribal  necklace shaped digital prints, she made a big statement about her brilliance in taste. The latest collections of hers did not disappointed the people who held high expectations for her. The interior-picture inspired digital prints of S/S 2011 collection was how I got to get to know her. How she brought highly stylized seventies photography of interiors (taken by Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin) and turned them into a digital print without making them tacky still remains a mystery to me. Yet she continued on leaving unsolved riddles behind. Her F/W 2011 collection was unbelievable. The combination of inspirations poured on to the garments and digital prints covering the whole garment head to toe, may have driven the collection to be seem just too much. But she somehow made it work all together! Brilliance!

Givenchy scarves F/W 2011

Here are some Givenchy scarves from F/W 2011 collection, which I was very fond of. I love the idea of turning dog faces in to a shape of orchid that you don't even notice their faces until you take a very close look at them. The color story of the scarves are very coherent. The contrast of the two complementary colors, the purple and the yellow, drives your attention to them. I think there are clever ideas that I can possibly use myself when I try designing a pattern latter.

Explosion of colors

These are liquid light shows created by Dutch visual artists Mark and Ine van den Elsen.
Here is a video link of the creation process of these art works. The diffusion of colors and the shapes and pattern created from the process are very dreamy. I personally adore psychedelic color scheme so I like the times when they mix around brighter colors.

Backstage by Mark Leibowitz

These photos were taken by photographer Mark Leibowitz at the back stage of John Galliano's S/S 2011 fashion show. The photos are much more than just documentation of a fashion event. Beyond taking photos of beautiful models wearing high end fashion garments, Mark turned the photos in to art pieces itself. The harmonious delicious colors, and the movements approaches to me like an oil painting that I would definitely stare at in a gallery.

crustaceans and beehives

This week for concepts, we had to find an inspiration in relation to the idea of "Internal vs External", and a visual inspiration of any kind. I chose crustaceans for the concept, and honeycombs/beehives as my additional inspiration. I liked the kiwa hirsuta crab in pale beige color which has fur like hair on its pincher-it made me think of leather coats with soft fur arms. I found some sculptures that were inspired from honeycombs that were interesting in its volume and texture.
